  • What is a Group or Temple?

Per Ankh defines a temple as a group with a minimum of three active members.

What is the difference between an Affiliate, a Congregant, and a Shemsu Member?

Affiliates are folks who want to relate to the community, may or may not take classes but have other religious or personal commitments. They want a relationship to the community without any strings attached or expectations of them other than that they find being a part of our community helpful on their path

Congregants are fully Kemetic in the tradition of Per Ankh. They are part of our community and plan to be initiated into the traditional religion of ancient Egypt as practiced by Per Ankh.

Shemsu are congregants who HAVE been initiated into the traditional Religion of Ancient Egypt. They may or may not have a call to the Priesthood. They are fully committed to this faith and this temple.

Can Associate Temple Members become Full Temple Members?

Yes. Associate Members must meet all of the criteria for Full Membership by taking the Per Ankh curriculum or proving equivalent criteria to the Per Ankh curriculum.

Once Associate Members have proved they have met all of the criteria, they become a Probationary Member.

Can I join if I am under the age of 18?

Because of legal issues, those under the age of consent can only join Per Ankh as Affiliate Members, with written consent of their parent(s). However, they cannot become Congregants or work towards Shemsu until the age of 18.

What is a Probationary Temple Member?

In order to assure that the Per Ankh organization and the potential Full Member are compatible, a probationary period of time is required. All Probationary Members receive all the benefits of an Associate Member, and they have a probationary seat on the Council. While they cannot vote, they have a voice on the Per Ankh Council.

What is the Cost of Membership and why does it cost to belong to Per Ankh?

For Individual Members, the cost is absolutely free.

For Temple Group Members, there is a fee to belong to Per Ankh.

In order to bring much of the benefits of membership (ie: non-profit status, web pages, secure message boards, majordomo lists, chat software, etc), to provide classes, lectures, and workshops, and to help the general running of Per Ankh, Per Ankh must charge a nominal fee to its Temple Group Members.

For costs, see the Membership Costs page. The cost of temple membership is less than what you would pay for comparative online services. We have compiled a list of comparative costs to show the benefits of Per Ankh.

What if I am a member, and I want to leave Per Ankh?

We know that our way is not the path for everyone, and, if an individual or temple wants to leave Per Ankh, we hope and wish the best for them.

    For Individual Members:

  • Affiliate Members who wish to leave Per Ankh need only to simply write a letter to Per Ankh explaining that they wish to terminate their membership and their reasons.

  • Because Shemsu Members have committed themselves to the Kemetic faith, and have been initiated into the religion, they must write a letter of termination to Per Ankh as well as speak with one of the Per Ankh clergy.

For Shemsu Members who have been ordained, it is highly recommended that a ritual be performed to cleanly break the temple and person relationship and to wish the person well on their spiritual journey.

    For Group Members:
Group temple members must fill out a termination form. Any fees paid to Per Ankh by group members are not refundable.
